Rocket Challenge

This term, we've created bottle rockets that we can launch on the school field. We each had to make groups of at least 4 people. In my group we had Me, Kaylis, Tumoana and Lockeya. We made our group name OTK Bubblestring 364.

We focused on 6 modules on our work, Force, Aerodynamics, Mission Command, Fly, The Final Blast off and Thrust. We need force so that our rockets can fly high enough in the air. We also need to use aerodynamics to find out how the rocket can go through the air the best way it can. And we need Thrust so we have enough force to go up. We have possitions for people like Chief Engineer, Chief Scientist and Safety Officer. All of these possitions are very important. The Chief Engineer will set the rocket up and launch it. The Chief Scientist will record all data for the mission and the Safety Officer will be in charge of keeping everyone's safety.

The features of the rocket is also very important for the best peformance possible. We need the base, nosecone, fins for the rocket to fly. The most fins you could have would be around 3-4. Any more would add too much weight. The size of those fins can also affect the peformance of your rocket.

We all used Newton's 3 laws of motion as well.

1. An object will remain at rest or keep moving forever at the same speed and in a straight line unless there is another force ucting upon it.

2. Force= Mass x Acceleration. The more weight a object has, the more force is needed to make it move.

3. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

 It's A Small World!

The Grand Canyon is found in Arizona, United States. It is 446 km long!

Mount Fuji is found in  Kitayama, Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, Japan. It is the tallest mountain in Japan!

Uluru is found in Petermann, Australia. It is taller than the  Eiffel Tower by 24m!

The Eiffel Tower is found in Paris, France. It is the same height as a 18-storey building!

The Fox Glacier is found in Westland Tai Poutini National Park. It is 13km long!

 How A Pencil Is Made

Step 1: Wood is cut into slats that are called pencil stock

Step 2: There is then a wax and also stain that are put on while the slats are put under a cutting wheel

Step 3: In the slat, the grooves are filled with a glue ready for the lead

Step 4: They then create the lead by putting together graphite and clay and putting it in an oven to bake at around 815 degrees

Step 5: When the lead is put in, another slat of wood is plopped on top

Step 6: A Special Mechanism squeezes the wooden slats until the glue dries

Step 7: It's then cut into pencils

Step 8: The pencils are coloured by a lacquering head

Step 9: The eraser at the top is added from a assembley machine

Step 10: Some pencils are imprinted with company logos, but after that you have your very own pencil

Measurement Scavenger Hunt

On Wenesday the 9th, my class did a measurement scavenger hunt. Me and Tumoana did it together because we knew we woluld only need two people to measure properly. We used a measuring tape to measure what we needed to but only used a Metre ruler once. Me and Tumoana started in the playground which we finished very quickly. We then moved onto the front of the Nelson block. It didn't take us too long to finish that either. All we had to do was to measure the bike racks. We moved onto the courts where we had to measure the length of the basketball which was over 30 metres! The last place we had to measure was our classroom which also was very quickly done.

Well-Being

These are all the words that relate to me and my well-being. The image is Kawhi Leonards logo. I've put in the words Basketball, Education, Sport, Health, Mentality, Kiribati, Niue, Otaki and My Name. Basketball is my favourite sport and it's what I want to do for a living. Education is very important to me because it gives me the knowledge I need to go out into the world. Sport is also important because it helps me to stay fit. I need to be healthy so I can get my energy and growth. Mentality is also another thing that is important to me because I need to be able to be calm when I need to be the most. Kiribati and Niue are the Islands in the pacific which I come from and Otaki is where I live. I've chosen the Kawhi Leonard logo because he's one of my favourite NBA players.

Ipo The Parrot

This Morning, a lady named Andrea came into our classroom to share with us a little cockatoo named Ipo.

Ipo suffers from a range of stuff including arthritis. He is 43 and he could possibly live up to 100 years old. Andrea told us all about the type of parrot he is and how he comes from Australia. After, she got us to come up and pet him. Ipo is a Omnivore which means he eats fruit, veges and meat. He likes to dance to music as well. He's also been on Fanimals. I think he's a great Cockatoo.

Word Art

My words on my word art are Kaylis, Taipua, Excited, Optimistic and Apprehensive. I will miss both Kaylis and Taipua because they are leav...
